Gran Torino ( Spoilers, FYI )

So I just finished watching Gran Torino and that's gotta be one of the best, most frustrating movies I've seen in some time. I'm not much of a movie critic, and I don't think I'll manage to do a whole review on it so bear with me. I was impressed with the character development in the movie, despite the fact that most people I know who've seen it said most of the movie was boring. -__- I really enjoyed getting to know the neighborhood, in a sense. I especially loved the development of Clint's character, an old and disgruntled war veteran. He was the stereotypical racist person I love to hate in the beginning, but by the movie's end, so much more of him was revealed and I learned to love him.

So why was the movie frustrating?

Well, all the racism and the hate. That kind of thing really gets the blood boiling. I cringed my way through all of Soprano's because of all the racist comments and such.

a) No wonder I can't stand racism. It's disgusting.

b) The primary problem in the movie was the neighboorhood gang and aside from racism, not much more makes me sick than "gangs" of teenagers. No, actually.. just "gangs" in general.

I've yet to see how groups of people ganging up on one person is anything close to tough. Maybe I missed that memo? Seeing people helpless and defenseless makes me really, really, reeeally uncomfortable so to see people being backed into corners by a whole group of people wasn't my cup of tea. The movie portrayed how teenagers are these days are well. Quick to gang up on someone weaker, someone different. You know, always so tough when they have their buddies to back them up, but scared kittens once someone truly stands up to them. But I won't rant about that now. :P

Another thing I really liked was the underlying concept of "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Someone gets hurt, someone takes vengance, someone takes vengance for that person.. etc. It just goes on and on and it shows that, often, a price will be paid. A great lesson.. but I'm really one to talk. I've never afraid to get revenge on someone for hurting a friend nor am I afraid to stand up to anyone and it'll probably get me shot/stabbed one day.. lol.

Anyways, I thought it was a great movie. I was surprised at the turn that was taken to solve the problem that Clint faced. Here I thought he was going to fly in guns blazing.. Which would probably have probably made me like the movie less. The sacrafice of his life to get all those gang pricks jailed made so much more sense. And I'll admit that I cried like a bitch.
